A single mom equestrian might
love Wilson College because you can be on the equestrian team, bring your own horse and board it on campus!!

Housing: Women with Children Program
1996 Wilson began the Women with Children Program which "offers single mothers a liberal arts education going beyond the narrow training programs" Nine women with children have graduated. In 2003 there were 31 women with 35 children in the program. There is a waiting list for housing on campus. Prentis Hall has year round housing for single moms which includes a 2 room suite. The moms share areas such as group living room. playrooms, computer rooms, kitchen and laundry facilities. "The Women with Children Program allows me the opportunity to pursue my education and to provide a safe haven for my children," says one student.
Costs: 90% of students recieve financial aid.

My opinion:
The only problem with a program such as this is that this is a private college with the high tuition costs of private colleges. The danger is that you will be forced to take on huge student loans. For a mom that desires the private school experience with all the amenities ( a place to board your horse should you not be able to leave home without it), or a mom of means, great. For a single mom that will have to shoulder the high school loans, please apply to several schools, including the big state school in your state and compare the packages. Use the toll free number and ask questions!! ----Katherine Arnoldi

 Pennsylvania State University

Not recommended unless someone can show me that they can go here without taking on huge school loans. Please do not let the legislature allow the students to take the debt of the state on their backs. Shame on the Pennsylvania legislature for raising the tuition at the state school to this, I believe, the highest of all tuitions. There is nothing to recommend this school.
The housing costs are also high.
Child Care information to come, but nonexistent on web site. Pennsylvania has been losing population since the 1960's and I say, you , too, should leave. Vote with your feet. Go to the University of South Carolina, or West Virginia University, for example, where they have subsidized child care, cheap tuition and cheap housing!! If you must stay, form coalitions, protest on campus and protest at the legislature. This is a disgrace to Pennsylvania.

Please note: This is the state university system for Pennsylvania.

The University of Pennsylvania, which sounds like the name of a public university, is not. The University of Pennsylvania, with 9,730 students, is located in Philadelphia and the tuition is $30,598 a year. It is a private school best known for the Wharton School of Business, an ivy league institution. Do I think that parenting students should attend ivy league schools? You betcha! But not with thousands of dollars of school loans (unless you have help from wealthy relatives or are willing to pay off loans for years to come!) Be sure that you advocate for a full tuition scholarship here. And fight for family housing! And child care! ----Katherine Arnoldi
