more specific scholarship information from the University of Vermont website:

Ayling and Travelli Foundation Scholarships (FAFSA required) Recipients must be first generation Vermont Residents who have been admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences. Ayling and Travelli Scholars must also demonstrate significant financial need and academic merit. Ayling and Travelli Scholarships are renewable provided recipients make academic progress. Ayling and Travelli Scholars receive annual scholarship amounts commensurate with financial need and academic merit. The scholarships typically replace need-based student loan borrowing.
Especially good award for single moms returning to college:Bernard Osher Foundation Reentry Scholarship (Osher Scholarship Application required3) For students seeking their degree after a significant break in their studies. Awards are generally $2000 for the academic year.
C. V. Starr Scholarship (FAFSA required) A merit-based scholarship offered to entering first-year applicants based upon superior academic performance in high school. A minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average and enrollment in twelve or more credits per semester is required for renewal.
Recipients are selected based upon materials presented in the UVM Admissions application including essays, recommendations, standardized testing and high school transcript. C. V. Starr Scholars receive a merit-based award of $3,000 annually.
Gerald Levin Scholarship Entering first year applicants from metropolitan areas of Philadelphia, New York City, Northern New Jersey and Boston are eligible. Students selected as Levin Scholars demonstrate financial need, superior academic merit and a commitment to issues of social justice and diversity. The Levin Scholarship offers a limited number of four-year $10,000 per year scholarships.
L. Richard Fisher Scholarship Fund First consideration will be given to graduates of Hazen Union High School in Hardwick, Vermont who demonstrate strong academic merit. Residents of the Northeast Kingdom who are interested in pursuing a major with the College of Engineering at the University of Vermont may also be considered. Graduates of Hazen Union who do not demonstrate financial need may also be considered for this award; priority funding will go to Hazen Union graduates who have been admitted to an engineering major.
Leroy Ingalls 4-H Scholarship (Leroy Ingalls Scholarship Application Required4) For current University of Vermont students with "outstanding merit in character and 4-H club record and scholastic attainment in college." The 4-H experience may come from Vermont or any other state. The award is available every academic year and will be granted in the second semester, and the amount available will vary each year.
